DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL JUNE 16th

WELCOME

Coordination and Adaptation are key issues when developing software systems. Coordination focuses on the interaction among computational entities, and adaptation on the problems raised when these entities do not match properly. Both issues are now central in Software Engineering research, as shown in the call for papers and proceedings of the most relevant conferences in the field.

The topics of interest of WCAT08 cover a broad number of fields where coordination and adaptation have an impact, including models, interface specification, automatic composition and adaptation of components or services, autonomic and self-adaptive systems, run-time and middleware issues, case studies, and experience reports. These topics cross-cut the boundaries of several fields such as distributed systems, object-oriented design and programming, component-based software development, service architectures and model-driven engineering. In all these fields, the structuring of complex systems into smaller, reusable parts, altogether with their assembly, is the key, thus raising the need for adaptation.

The goal of WCAT08 is to put together researchers and practitioners of the aforementioned fields, to share and identify common problems, and to devise general solutions in the context of coordination and adaptation.

This is the fifth edition of the WCAT workshop. After four successful editions associated to ECOOP, we have decided to move the workshop to a conference more closely related to the topics and scope of WCAT. We consider that ASE is a very good target for this purpose, since it covers a broader field on Software Engineering, not only related to the object-oriented paradigm, its topics are more closely related to those of WCAT, and it also puts a special emphasis in automated techniques as required by adaptation.
